FC Copenhagen line up January move for Emil Krafth

FC Copenhagen will reportedly look to sign 51-cap Swedish international Emil Krafth from Newcastle United in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by Shields Gazette, Emil Krafth is the subject of interest of FC Copenhagen. The Danish Superliga champions are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a right-back in the winter transfer window. So, the 31-year-old Newcastle United wide player has emerged as a target for Byens Hold.

With the Swede entering the final six months of his contract when the winter transfer window opens, a cut-price move may be on the cards. A deal may appeal to Krafth, considering his status as a rotation player under Eddie Howe.

Emil Krafth and his situation

Emil Krafth has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Newcastle United from Amiens SC in August 2019. A native of Ljungby, the 31-year-old spent his formative years in Sweden, starting his youth career at Lagans AIK before graduating from the youth division at Osters IF. However, spells with Bologna and Amiens SC helped him rise in prominence before Newcastle United came calling.

The 51-cap Swedish international has been in and out of the starting lineup in the last half a dozen years, managing over 100 appearances thus far for Newcastle United while chipping in with one goal and three assists. While Krafth has been a dependable presence on the right flank, he has not been a regular starter throughout his spell with the Tyneside outfit.

What next?

As the winter transfer window approaches, Emil Krafth’s long-term future at the club level will become a subject of speculation. The former Amiens SC full-back will enter the final six months of his contract when the year ends, making him an appealing option for a cut-price move.

FC Copenhagen will pursue a winter deal for Krafth, with his contract situation capturing the attention of Byens Hold. The Danish club’s interest is understandable, as the experienced Swedish wide player can be an immediate solution for the second half of the 2025/26 season, particularly if they progress in the UEFA Champions League.

A cut-price move may be on the cards due to Krafth’s contract situation. It will be interesting to see if the 31-year-old Swede ends his spell with Newcastle United in the winter transfer window by joining FC Copenhagen in the coming weeks.
