Crystal Palace in transfer tussle to sign Arseniy Batagov

Crystal Palace will compete with three other clubs in the race to sign 23-year-old Ukrainian centre-back Arseniy Batagov from Turkish club Trabzonspor next year.

According to an update by Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Arseniy Batagov is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. The Eagles are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back next year. So, the 23-year-old Trabzonspor defender has emerged as a target for the South London outfit.

Crystal Palace will not be alone in the race to sign the Berezivka native, with Bologna, Lazio, and Nottingham Forest also vying for his signature. However, convincing Trabzonspor to part ways with Batagov will be a tall order, although the Turkish outfit may reluctantly sell if they receive a “high” offer.

Who is Arseniy Batagov?

Arseniy Batagov is the latest highly-rated prospect from his homeland to rise in prominence. A native of Berezivka, the 23-year-old spent his formative years in Ukraine, passing through the academies at Metalist Kharkiv and DYuSSh Lyubotyn before graduating from the youth division at Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

However, the Ukrainian defender has risen in prominence since joining Trabzonspor from Zorya Luhansk last year. Batagov has made 34 appearances thus far for the Turkish club while chipping in with two goals and one assist. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Crystal Palace will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature next year.

London calling?

Crystal Palace’s interest in Arseniy Batagov is understandable. The Eagles are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the next two transfer windows. Marc Guehi will leave the South London club next year, and widespread reports have linked the Crystal Palace captain with several European bigwigs.

Several candidates, including Nathan Ake, have thus emerged on Crystal Palace’s radar, with Batagov also a viable target. However, the 2024/25 FA Cup winners are not alone in the race to sign the Trabzonspor defender, with Bologna, Lazio, and Nottingham Forest also vying for his signature.

Meanwhile, the Claret-Blues are hesitant to part ways with Batagov due to his growing influence at the club. However, the Turkish outfit may reluctantly cash in on the 23-year-old Ukrainian defender if they receive a “high” offer from his prospective suitors.
