BVB look to ward off Felix Nmecha suitors with contract extension

Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha wasn’t short of interest last summer with Inter, Juventus and Manchester United in the race to sign the midfielder, whose current deal expires in 2028.

According to a report from WAZ, BVB are keen to extend Nmecha’s contract ahead of schedule, to ward off potential suitors this summer.

At this stage, only informal discussions have taken place with extending the contracts of Nico Schlotterbeck and Karim Adeyemi beyond 2027 a priority for Die Schwarzgelben, as to avoid going into 2026/27 with just 12 months remaining on their respective deals.

Felix Nmecha’s resurgence

Over the course of the last eight months, Nmecha has emerged as one of Borussia Dortmund’s leading players. After an initially difficult start to the calendar year as BVB slumped to three straight defeats under Nuri Şahin prior to a knee injury at the end of January, it wasn’t until the appointment of Niko Kovač, who coached Nmecha during his time at Wolfsburg, that we saw an uptick in form.

After a difficult start to 2025, Nmecha has developed into a leading Bundesliga player under Kovač at Dortmund, and he’s finally repaying the €30m fee BVB paid Wolfsburg in July 2023 with his performances on the pitch. If he can keep fit, Nmecha promises to be a player to watch in 2026.
