Official | Filipe Coelho leaves Strasbourg to takr charge of Casa Pia AC

Portuguese coach Filipe Coelho has left his role as assistant manager at RC Strasbourg Alsace to take the role of first-team head coach at Casa Pia AC, it was confirmed on Sunday.

Coelho, who has previously worked with the youth sides at SL Benfica, Estoril, and Chelsea, joined Strasbourg as an assistant back in the summer of 2025. He was initially the assistant to Liam Rosenior and then to Gary O’Neil when the former left to join Chelsea back in January.

Speaking to A Bola earlier this year, Coelho revealed why he did not follow Rosenior to Chelsea and also outlined his future ambitions. “I was close to going to Chelsea when Liam left and accompanying him in London, but family is a very important pillar and it didn’t make sense to take my family away from a good adaptation to life in France to return to London [at that point]. I arrived five months ago, and I want to keep going,” Coelho said.

He added, “I feel that the moment to be a head coach will come. I’m not in a hurry and I’m enjoying it […] A return to Liga Portugal? It’s a league that means a lot to me. It’s my country. Returning to my country is always on the table.”

O’Neil recently left, too, in order to take the vacancy at Ipswich Town. The Englishman left with the assistants that he appointed and Coelho, who was there prior, has also left. He has been named the manager of Casa Pia AC in the Portuguese top flight.
