Everton, Fulham in transfer tussle to sign Nuno Tavares

Everton and Fulham will reportedly compete with Juventus to sign 25-year-old Portuguese international Nuno Tavares from Lazio in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Everton and Fulham are interested in Nuno Tavares. The Arsenal loanee is also a target for Juventus, setting up a three-way battle for his signature. Meanwhile, the Portuguese international will complete a permanent move to Lazio in the summer transfer window.

Nuno Tavares and his resurgence

Nuno Tavares has established himself as one of the best full-backs in Serie A since joining Lazio on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal last summer. The Biancocelesti will seal a permanent deal for the Lisbon native in a few months due to an obligation clause in the agreement with Arsenal.

The 25-year-old was hot off the gates for Lazio this season, amassing eight assists in his first eight outings for Lazio. However, fitness issues have plagued Tavares in the ongoing campaign, and he has managed only nine assists in 28 appearances across all competitions.

Meanwhile, Tavares’s exploits for Lazio have not gone unnoticed, and several well-known clubs across Europe are keen on signing the Arsenal loanee in the summer transfer window. Recent reports have linked Juventus with the Portuguese international, with Everton and Fulham joining the Bianconeri in the three-way battle for his signature.

Premier League return on the horizon?

Everton’s interest in Nuno Tavares is understandable. The Toffees are scouring the market for a left-back heading into the summer transfer window, with David Moyes keen on adding an alternative to Vitaliy Mykolenko. So, the Arsenal loanee is a viable target for Everton.

As for Fulham, Antonee Robinson has been one of the best full-backs in the Premier League. However, the USMNT international has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs with his exploits, with Liverpool and Manchester United vying for his signature. So, Tavares is an option worth considering for Fulham.

However, with Juventus also in the three-way battle for Tavares’s signature, Everton and Fulham face a tall order to land the 25-year-old Portuguese international. However, a return to the Premier League might be on the cards if the Arsenal loanee feels he has unfinished business in the top flight after failing to make his mark at the North London club.
