According to Bild, Manchester City and Real Madrid could miss out on Florian Wirtz ahead of the summer with the player making his preference clear. The Bayer Leverkusen playmaker is seemingly interested in joining Bayern Munich instead of any other suitor in the close season.
Florian Wirtz is considered one of the most talented playmakers in world football, and there’s an obvious battle in the background for his signature. Last season’s Bundesliga player of the season has had another productive campaign for Bayer Leverkusen with 29 goals and assists across all competitions.
The summer will bring about a change in scenery for the 29 G/A playmaker, as there are a host of teams looking to take him off Leverkusen. Manchester City are open to paying big to secure his signature, as Pep Guardiola views Wirtz as the ideal replacement for the departing Kevin De Bruyne.
Real Madrid have also considered him as a big target, and they have links with Xabi Alonso, the current Leverkusen manager to replace Carlo Ancelotti in the close season. Hence, reports have connected the two factors and considered Wirtz as a target for the Spanish giants in the summer.
It appears Wirtz has already made up his mind as previously reported he prefers a switch to Bayern Munich instead. The report states that the 29 G/A playmaker’s father as well as agent have been in touch with the Bavarians, as he could prefer to stay in the Bundesliga rather than move elsewhere.
Bayern Munich may have an agreement of sorts in the background with Wirtz’s camp over a move in the summer. The Bavarians have stayed confident in the chase for the playmaker despite the reported interest from Manchester City and Real Madrid.
Bayern Munich have always preferred to snap up the best talents within the Bundesliga and in that regard, the move for Wirtz might be their biggest ever. Talks could commence between them and Bayer Leverkusen soon enough as Wirtz is widely expected to make the switch to Bayern Munich in the close season for a top fee.
