Arsenal and Aston Villa join Manchester United in Oihan Sancet race

Arsenal and Aston Villa have reportedly joined Manchester United in the hunt for Athletic Club’s prolific attacking midfielder Oihan Sancet.

According to Ekrem Konur, Oihan Sancet has plenty of suitors coming out of the Premier League, with Arsenal and Aston Villa the latest to join the quest. Manchester United are already credited with an interest in the Athletic Club attacking midfielder.

Athletic Club will be generally relaxed about Oihan Sancet heading into the summer window despite the heavy interest being generated in the attacking midfielder. The club are known to tie down many of their players to long-term contracts, and in the case of Sancet, he has a deal until 2032.

A report linking Sancet to Manchester United stated he has an €80 million release clause in his contract, as triggering the said exit clause could leave Athletic Club powerless in their efforts to keep him. Sancet has had a tremendous season at San Mames, with 17 goals and 3 assists to show for his cause.

Manchester United are certainly interested as they are in the market for a player of his quality. Could he be a replacement for Saudi-linked Bruno Fernandes? The Red Devils are not interested in selling the Portuguese midfielder, although they might be interested in adding  Sancet to improve their team under Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United have other priorities in the market as they need to reinforce in the attack and midfield. Hence, the idea of Sancet might come to excite a few fans, although at the €80 million price point, the Red Devils may not realistically pursue the 17-goal La Liga midfielder this summer at the very least.

Arsenal and Aston Villa in Oihan Sancet hunt

Arsenal are also keen on the 17-goal La Liga midfielder, with Mikel Arteta looking to add an attacking midfielder who could be a goal threat. They are also linked with Alberto Moleiro, although Sancet has much better numbers when compared to the Las Palmas star. However, the price point could be an issue, as the Gunners are prioritising a left-winger and more importantly, a striker, which could leave them short of funds.

Aston Villa are also in the hunt for Moleiro and could consider Sancet as another option to improve their attacking setup. Director Monchi has big contacts in Spain and could prove pivotal in negotiating Sancet’s price down, although Athletic Club are unlikely to sell one of their best players for anything less than his €80 million release clause.
