Arsenal and Chelsea to open talks with Nico Williams agent

Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea are preparing to open talks with the representatives of Athletic Club sensation Nico Williams.

According to Ekrem Konur, Arsenal and Chelsea are both keen on signing Nico Williams this summer. Both London clubs are looking to reopen negotiations with the representatives of Athletic Club’s attacking sensation. The Spanish international seems willing to make the switch to the Premier League.

Williams has come up the ranks at the Spanish club and he has been a part of their first team setup since 2021. He has only gone from strength to strength with every passing season and has established himself as a key figure in the team.

He enjoyed an outstanding season at club level and followed it up with a sensational Euro 2024 campaign, playing a key role in helping Spain lift the title. While there was no shortage of interest in his signature last summer, Williams decided to continue at the Athletic Club for another season.

The 22-year-old winger has had another impressive season as he has contributed towards 18 goals in his 44 outings. He remains on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in the world and there could be a bidding war for his signature.

While Athletic will struggle to keep hold of him, securing Champions League football could give them an outside chance. Williams’ priority seems to be a move to Barcelona but the Catalan giants’ financial situation suggests they will struggle to get a deal over the line.

Arsenal and Chelsea want Williams

Reports previously indicated that Williams might be reluctant to move to England. However, the Spanish international now appears more open than ever to a Premier League switch, with both Arsenal and Chelsea keen on his signature.

The Gunners want an upgrade on the left flank and the 22-year-old is a priority target for Andre Berta. They know it won’t be easy but they are willing to try their luck. Meanwhile, Chelsea also seek more quality on the flanks with Jadon Sancho’s future uncertain and Mykhailo Mudryk serving a ban.

Both London clubs are ready to restart talks with the player’s camp. They want to renegotiate with his agents as they believe the 22-year-old is very eager to move to England, they do not want to lose out on the opportunity to make him a key part of their project.
