Rennes have announced the appointment of Loïc Désiré as Sporting Director. Les Rouge et Noir parted ways with Frederic Massara this Friday and have moved quickly to secure his replacement. Désiré was Strasbourg’s head of recruitment since 2014. The 49-year-old Breton previously worked as a scout for AFC Ajax. According to Rennes’ statement, Désiré will oversee the club’s sporting policy, and his responsibilities are set to range from the Academy to the professional squad.

Rennes’ new Sporting Director will be tasked to trim down Habib Beye’s squad, considering none of the signings overseen by Massara have met expectations. Kyogo Furuhashi, Mikayil Faye, Carlos Andrés Gomez are all set to be transfer-listed. Rennes have finished a disappointing season in 12th place with a 4-2 away defeat to Olympique de Marseille. For the second season in a row, Rennes won’t play in European competition.
