Sporting CP give green light to Arsenal to seal Viktor Gyokeres move

Sporting CP and Viktor Gyokeres have given the green light to make a move to Arsenal and become the new No.9 under Mikel Arteta.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal are inching ever closer to securing the signature of Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish striker as well as his club Sporting CP have green-lit the idea of joining the Gunners, with the Manchester United-linked striker set to be made available for a fee in the region of £60 million.

Arsenal are in the market to land a new striker to help Mikel Arteta edge closer to winning the Premier League and further progressing in the Champions League next season. The Gunners were plagued with injury problems this season, especially to their forward players, that saw Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus practically not play for half the season.

The North Londoners have sorely missed a big presence in the No.9 position; chance creation is not their problem, but finishing certainly has been. Arsenal are now closing in on the signing of Viktor Gyokeres, with the Sporting CP star reportedly available for £60 million, which is significantly less than the £85 million release clause in his contract.

Gyokeres reportedly has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Sporting CP to let him leave for less than his release clause. Arsenal are certainly interested in getting a deal done at that price point as they have already been priced out a move for the rather expensive Alexander Isak.

The Gunners do face competition from Manchester United, but the report states Arsenal are the clear front-runners to get a deal done for the 26-year-old goal machine. New sporting director Andrea Berta has been leading the chase for the attacker, and it appears he nearly has the striker in his bag.

Sporting CP and Gyokeres open to Arsenal move

There is apparently a green light from both parties to make the switch to Arsenal, with Viktor Gyokeres has set his heart on a move to the Gunners. Many of the recent stories have indicated the Gunners are expected to make a bumper contract offer to the 26-year-old goal machine.

So far the North Londoners have not made any offer to Sporting CP, which might come through once the season ends in England and Portugal. Sporting CP are currently in the thick of a title race as well as into the cup final, so Arsenal are expected to wait until the dust settles on those. Manchester United might be in the equation amid their search for an upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund. However, a summer deal may not see the light of day.
