Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa working to sign Jonathan David

Tottenham and Aston Villa are among those in talks with Jonathan David ahead of a summer move with the striker set to be available on a free transfer.

According to L’Equipe, Jonathan David is courting plenty of high-profile offers as he continues to mull over his next destination. Tottenham and Aston Villa are among those in talks with the Canadian striker ahead of a potential move, as his availability and prolific goalscoring ability are the No.1 reason for everyone chasing the in-demand striker.

Jonathan David represents a very small pool of quality players available on a free transfer ahead of the summer. The prolific Canadian striker has had another terrific season with LOSC Lille with 37 goals and assists in the campaign.

He has so far refused to sign a new contract with Lille despite their efforts to get a deal in place. The in-demand 37 G/A striker is now expected to evaluate some of the offers he could receive in the summer and make a decision, although he has already snubbed the likes of West Ham despite them making a lucrative proposal.

There are some high-profile sides interested in David, while the likes of Barcelona, who were deeply interested have cooled their pursuit. However, the likes of Aston Villa and Tottenham are among the teams in talks with the Canadian over a move.

The idea is smart from the Premier League duo, who are looking for a striker in the market. They will need a big effort to lure the in-demand 37 G/A striker, as the likes of Fenerbahce are also in the race and willing to make a considerable financial effort to sign the striker.

Aston Villa and Tottenham in Jonathan David Race

Aston Villa could fail in their efforts to sign Marcus Rashford permanently, while there are doubts over Ollie Watkins’ future at the club. Moreover, they have not replaced Jhon Duran since his departure in January, which does make the need for a striker a priority ahead of the summer. Under Unai Emery, David could be a force for Villa, although the finances involved in the deal make it very difficult.

Tottenham’s plans to recruit quality players might hinge on their ability to win the Europa League Final on Wednesday and qualify for the Champions League. Finances will be a concern, although they could make a considerable effort in tempting David into joining them, however, to get the Canadian they might need Champions League football next season.
