Real Betis identify Federico Chiesa as Antony alternative

Real Betis are looking at Liverpool flop Federico Chiesa as an alternative to Manchester United winger Antony, who did wonders for them while on loan.

According to Football Espana, Real Betis are interested in acquiring the services of Federico Chiesa and they could knock on the doors of Liverpool for his signature if they fail to sign their priority target Antony.

The Manchester United winger managed to revive his career with a short loan spell at the Spanish club. Not only did he get his career back on track, the Brazilian even helped them secure European football. Betis were in the bottom half of the table at the halfway mark but Antony guided them to a sixth-placed finish with his consistent performances.

The 25-year-old right-winger made a name for himself at Ajax. On the back of his sensational rise, United forked out €95 million to sign him in the summer of 2022. Unfortunately, the move didn’t work out for all parties involved.

Real Betis will struggle to re-sign Antony

After years of struggle, United finally ended up sending him out on loan to Betis for the second half of the 2024/25 season. The 25-year-old has had a massive impact at the Spanish club with 14 goal contributions in his 26 outings.

He fell in love with life in Seville and he became a fan favourite in no time. While the 25-year-old has returned to his parent club, Betis still have hopes of re-signing him ahead of next season. Antony is their priority target for them but they can’t really afford to pay the €40 million United want and offer anything close to the wages he earns at Old Trafford.

They would prefer another loan deal but it depends on whether United manage to find a buyer who is ready to meet their demands or not. The chances of returning to Betis on loan look very slim. As a result, the club have started looking at alternatives and Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa is one of the names on their wishlist.

Betis eyeing a move for Chiesa

Chiesa joined the Reds last summer but the move hasn’t worked out. He has struggled to stay fit and even when available, he has failed to break into Arne Slot’s team. Liverpool would prefer to get him on their books but they could even consider a loan spell depending on the market situation.

Betis have already held talks with Chiesa’s camp as they plot a loan move for the Italian. They can certainly sell the Antony success story to try and convince the former Juventus forward who is on the radar of AC Milan as well as Napoli.

Liverpool could sanction a temporary departure to the Spanish club as it could help them raise a significant fund from his sale in the future. While there is no guarantee that Chiesa will be as successful as Antony, he certainly has the talent to have a similar impact.
