Galatasaray line up Ilkay Gundogan swoop, player keen on move

Turkish giants Galatasaray are looking to sign Manchester City veteran Ilkay Gundogan, who is keen on making the move.

Galatasaray are looking to make some big moves this summer. The Turkish giants want to sign some world-class players. They want to add more quality to their midfield and are interested in the services of Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan.

According to Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, Galatasaray are plotting a raid on City for the 34-year-old German midfielder. They feel his experience and his leadership qualities could do wonders for their team as a whole. While Saudi Pro League clubs are also keen on his signature, the Turkish giants are a step ahead and they do have an advantage as Gundogan wants to join them.

Gundogan made a name for himself at Borussia Dortmund back in the day before joining City in the summer of 2016. He left the Premier League giants in 2023 to join Barcelona but returned to the club 12 months later.

Over the years, the German midfielder has been an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s plans. Despite being in the final phase of his career, the 34-year-old has managed to maintain a high level of performance. As a result, he ended up featuring in 50 matches during the 2024/25 season.

Gundogan could be playing in Turkiye next season

While he still has a year left on his deal at City and Guardiola is more than happy to have him around, there is a lot of talk about his future. Gundogan has won everything there is to win with City and he could now be looking for a new challenge in the final phase.

There is interest in his services from Saudi Arabia and Turkiye. While clubs from the Middle East can offer him a lucrative deal, he is not keen on moving to that part of the world. However, he could end up moving to Turkiye as giants, Galatasaray are keen on his signature.

They are working hard to bring him to the club and do have a boost as Gundogan is open to joining them. Despite an offer from the Middle East, the Super Lig club are believed to be a step ahead of them in the race.
