Chelsea are keen on signing Jamie Gittens and Mike Maignan this summer as they look to bolster their attack as well as add more quality in between the sticks. The Blues were pushing hard to sign the duo in time for the Club World Cup.
However, they have failed to strike a deal with Borussia Dortmund as well as AC Milan. The moves for the duo have collapsed for now but talks continue as the London club is keen on adding them to their squad ahead of next season. According to a report from TBR, both Jamie Gittens and Mike Maignan are confident about securing a move to Stamford Bridge.
With Jadon Sancho returning to his parent club, Joao Felix likely to be sold and Mykhailo Mudryk serving a ban, signing a new winger is one of the top priorities for the London club. Gittens is an ideal fit for their project, as he is only 20, and they are pushing to re-sign him, having had him in their youth setup for a short period back in the day.
The Dortmund winger is keen on securing a return to the Premier League and agreeing personal terms wasn’t really a problem for the Blues. But they have struggled to strike a deal with the German giants despite having submitted three bids.
Meanwhile, they are looking for a new number one as people at the club are not convinced that Robert Sanchez could be their go-to man in goal going forward. While he has done a decent job, Chelsea want a world-class shot-stopper who can help them win big.
While Maignan hasn’t been at his best in recent months, he is amongst the best goalkeepers in the world and Chelsea are pushing to bring him to London. They do have the green light from the player but Milan stands in their way.
The Blues wanted to wrap up the signing of Gittens and Maignan before the pre-Club World Cup transfer window deadline at 7 pm on Tuesday. Despite their efforts, they haven’t been able to strike a deal with the respective clubs.
While both Gittens and Maignan have been left frustrated as they cannot compete at the global event, they are still keen on moving to Stamford Bridge and are confident that they will do so when the transfer window reopens.
Chelsea are massive admirers of the duo and they were quite impressed by them during talks. They will return for their signature in the near future and will remain in talks with Dortmund and Milan for now.
