FC Porto set to open talks to seal summer deal for Fabio Vieira

FC Porto will soon approach Arsenal over a possible summer deal for 24-year-old Portuguese midfielder Fabio Vieira.

According to a report by Jornal De Noticias, Fabio Vieira may remain at FC Porto beyond the summer transfer window. The Primeira Liga giants are set to keep the on-loan midfielder until the FIFA Club World Cup ends. However, they will soon approach Arsenal to discuss a permanent move for the out-of-favour midfielder in the coming weeks.

Fabio Vieira and his resurgence

Fabio Vieira has somewhat resurrected his stuttering career since rejoining FC Porto on loan from Arsenal last summer. The North London outfit coughed up €40 million to sign the Santa Maria da Feira native from FC Porto in July 2022. However, he could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Emirates in his first two seasons with Arsenal.

The 24-year-old was slow off the blocks at FC Porto this season but has stepped up in the second half of the 2024/25 campaign. Vieira has contributed to ten goals in 38 appearances across all competitions thus far, finding the back of the net five times and providing five assists.

Meanwhile, Vieira’s exploits in the second half of the 2024/25 season have compelled FC Porto to seek a permanent move in the summer transfer window. While the Portuguese midfielder will represent the Primeira Liga outfit in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, they want to open talks over a possible summer deal.

What next?

The agreement between Arsenal and FC Porto regarding the loan deal for Fabio Vieira does not include a purchase option or obligation. So, it is hardly surprising that the Primeira Liga giants are ready to approach Arsenal to discuss a permanent move for the Santa Maria da Feira native in the summer transfer window.

Recent reports have claimed that Arsenal will sanction a permanent exit for Vieira in the summer transfer window. So, the player has no long-term future at the North London club, and an agreement between FC Porto and Arsenal over a deal may be on the cards.

With FC Porto president Andre Vilas-Boas approving the upcoming talks, it will be interesting to see how the negotiations between the two clubs progress. Arsenal will hope to recoup as much of the €40 million they paid when they cash in on the 24-year-old Portuguese international.
