Liverpool receive encouragement in Milos Kerkez chase
Arne Slot’s Liverpool are now looking to go after the signature of Bournemouth defensive sensation Milos Kerkez.
Winning the Premier League was only the beginning of the Arne Slot era. The Dutchman is now focused on reshaping his squad this summer to build on that success. He’s keen to add depth and quality to ensure Liverpool can maintain their domestic dominance while mounting a serious challenge for the Champions League title.
The Reds are within touching distance of making Jeremie Frimpong their first signing of the summer and they already have their eyes set on their second biggest target for the summer. According to a report from CaughtOffside, the Merseyside club are ready to go all out to add Milos Kerkez to their squad.
The 21-year-old Hungarian international has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Cherries back in 2023. Not only has he established himself as a key figure in their first team, but Kerkez is also widely regarded as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.
He has featured in all 36 of their league games and has contributed towards eight goals. He has had quite an impact on Bournemouth’s season and his performances have put him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Liverpool are one of the clubs that are keen on signing him. They have made him their next top target as they close in on the signature of Frimpong, who is set to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold in the team. While the right flank looks set with the Dutch wing-back’s potential arrival, Slot is also looking for more quality on the left.
Andrew Robertson’s performances have dipped in recent times, and at 31, age is beginning to catch up with him. While Arne Slot still values the veteran full-back’s experience and leadership, he is keen on bringing in a younger alternative who can gradually take over as the first-choice option on the left flank.
Liverpool can pursue Kerkez’s signature this summer
People at the club as well as the manager consider Kerkez an ideal fit for their project and they are looking to go all out to secure his services. The Reds have already held talks regarding a potential move for the Bournemouth sensation. The Cherries have made it quite clear that they want £45 million to sanction his departure this summer.
While the Reds were earlier worried about potentially breaching Financial Fair Play regulations in their attempt to sign Frimpong and Kerkez in the same window, they have received encouragement that it can be made possible.
The Reds are open to offloading Kostas Tsimikas if they manage to land Kerkez. The Greek international’s sale would not only generate funds but also help keep the club in line with Financial Fair Play regulations.
Liverpool could face significant competition
While Liverpool can afford to sign him, they are not certain to win the race as Real Madrid and Chelsea are still in the mix. Los Blancos could flex their financial muscles to sign him if they feel they need another option on the left flank with Ferland Mendy struggling to stay fit.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have a long-standing interest in the Hungarian international and they are seriously considering making changes on the left flank. Ben Chilwell and Renato Veiga are both expected to be on the move.
The Blues could also part ways with Marc Cucurella, which would open up further space in the squad for Milos Kerkez. Given his recent form, the Hungarian left-back looks capable of stepping in as a regular starter right from the outset.
