According to a report from CaughtOffside, Joshua Zirkzee might be living his final weeks at Manchester United, with the club open to offloading him just 12 months after his arrival from Bologna. They are willing to sanction his departure for less than €40 million and multiple Italian clubs are keen on signing him.
While things didn’t work out for Zirkzee at Bayern Munich, the move to Bologna helped him get his career back on track. On the back of his consistent performances for the Italian outfit, United forked out a significant fee to add him to their squad last summer.
The move hasn’t really gone according to plan as the Dutch forward has failed to live up to the lofty expectations. While he has been involved in a total of 48 matches across competitions, the 23-year-old only has seven goals and three assists.
His ability to feature anywhere in attack has certainly come to the rescue on quite a few occasions but his overall performances haven’t pleased Ruben Amorim. Just when he was slowly getting back to his best, the former Bologna star picked up a thigh injury.
While he is still young and can certainly turn things around next season, he might not get that time at United as Amorim is not at all pleased with the squad that he has inherited. He wants massive changes in the summer and it could result in the departure of quite a few first-team stars.
They are reportedly ready to sanction his departure after a disappointing debut campaign. The Red Devils would let him leave for less than €40 million, which certainly seems to be a bargain fee given his massive potential and his age.
His potential availability has put several Italian clubs on high alert. Those who had shown interest before his move to Old Trafford could now reignite their pursuit of the 23-year-old as they look to bolster their attacking options.
Inter Milan and Juventus are two Italian giants who are keen on signing him. While Simone Inzaghi doesn’t really have a shortage of options in the final third, he would certainly love to have someone as versatile as Zirkzee at his disposal. Given his experience in Italian football, he could have an instant impact on his team.
Meanwhile, Juventus could look at him as an ideal replacement for Dusan Vlahovic, who is expected to be on the move this summer. Apart from the giants, Fiorentina could also look at him if they do end up losing Moise Kean in the upcoming transfer window.
