Cruzeiro hoping to renegotiate Marquinhos deal with Arsenal

Cruzeiro are looking to renegotiate the terms of their deal with Arsenal for Marquinhos, who is currently on loan at the Brazilian club.

According to a report from Bolavip Brasil, Cruzeiro are in discussions with Arsenal as they seek to renegotiate the terms of Marquinhos’ loan deal. The Brazilian club are pushing for a significant revision to the purchase option for the winger and are hopeful of reaching an agreement with the North London side.

Marquinhos rose through the youth ranks at Sao Paulo before earning a promotion to the senior team in 2021. Despite making only a limited number of first-team appearances, Arsenal secured his signature just a year later, impressed by his potential.

While he has been a part of the Arsenal setup for years, he has never really had a decent run in their first team. The 22-year-old winger has spent the majority of his time out on loan and currently, he is with Cruzeiro in Brazil.

Marquinhos joined them on a year-long loan in January and so far he has featured in a total of 16 games. While he only has two goal contributions, he has featured on both flanks and has been quite an effective option for them.

Cruzeiro want a change in Marquinhos’ loan deal

Despite his impressive start, the young winger has been forced to warm the bench in their last three outings because of the buy clause in his loan deal. There is an option to buy in his deal which becomes an obligation after a set number of games.

The Brazilian club are very close to triggering that clause and since they are not yet sure about signing him permanently, they have decided against playing him for now. Cruzeiro wants to renegotiate the clause in his contract as they want to avoid the mandatory buy option.

They want more flexible terms and are in talks with the North London club as they want to use Marquinhos in a few more fixtures without triggering any clause. They believe the final decision will depend on Arsenal’s desire to contribute towards the player’s growth.

With his loan spell running until the end of the year, the Gunners should seriously consider accepting the Brazilian club’s demands as not playing regularly certainly won’t help the 22-year-old, who is yet to get a run in the London club’s first-team.
