Manchester United closing in on Matheus Cunha

Manchester United are close to sealing their first summer signing, with Matheus Cunha giving the green light to the move.

According to Fabrizio Romano via GiveMeSport, Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Wolves star Matheus Cunha. The Red Devils had already submitted an offer, which the Brazilian has accepted, and a deal could be finalised soon.

Things might not have worked out for Cunha at Atletico Madrid but he has certainly made the most out of his move to Wolves. The 25-year-old has had an exceptional season on a personal level as he has single-handedly kept the Wolverhampton-based club out of the drop zone.

He has been involved in a total of 34 matches across the competition and has contributed towards 23 goals (17 goals, 6 assists). His performances haven’t gone unnoticed as multiple top clubs are keen on signing him. But it seems Manchester United are set to win the race.

While Cunha did pen a new deal at the start of the year, his contract has a release clause which has made it easy for the Red Devils to strike a deal. They have been working on a potential transfer for some time and made an offer to the forward in the last 48 hours.

United are closing in on their first signing

Ruben Amorim has already approved his signing as the Brazilian is an ideal candidate to play behind a striker in the Portuguese manager’s system. United have been in talks with the player of late and they are now close to securing his services as he has accepted their project.

An agreement on personal terms is being finalised, and the deal is believed to be close to completion. The transfer doesn’t depend on the result of the Europa League final as Cunha is ready to join them even if they do not have Champions League football.

However, a few minor details still need to be sorted between Cunha, Wolves, and United, after which his move to Old Trafford will be completed. The Red Devils have struggled in the final third and the arrival of the 25-year-old will certainly add a lot of firepower to Amorim’s squad ahead of next season.
