Tottenham agree new deal with Ellis Lehane

Teenager Ellis Lehane has rejected the overtures of a few clubs including Aston Villa to sign professional terms with Tottenham.

According to Football Insider, Ellis Lehane is set to continue his journey as a Tottenham player after penning his first professional contract with the club. The 18-year-old reportedly rejected the overtures of a few teams including Aston Villa to keep himself at the north London side and dreams of a place in the first team.

Tottenham have produced some attacking talents through their academy over the years. The biggest one to stand out in that regard is Harry Kane, who spent ten years in the first team after coming through Spurs’ academy and became their all-time top goalscorer in the time he was here.

Mikel Moore is another example, with the young striker already part of the first-team plans under Ange Postecoglou. The club are hoping to see the best out of him in the coming years, as they have another prospect coming through the ranks.

Ellis Lehane is the latest name to emerge out of Tottenham’s academy with some prominence following his performances for the U-18s. He has scored 14 goals in 24 appearances for the U-18s and the FA Youth Cup, which has already sparked a lot of interest from many clubs.

Aston Villa were the most prominent club interested, while Brentford are also credited with an admiration for the 18-year-old. While there might have been an offer on the table from the Birmigham-based side that showed him a pathway toward first-team football, Lehane has seemingly rejected those overtures to stay put at Spurs.

Ellis Lehane signs professional terms with Tottenham

Lehane signed his scholarship deal back in 2023, which would have expired in the summer. That might have been the cue for clubs like Aston Villa to make their move for the teenager, although Lehane has reportedly signed professional terms with Tottenham.

Hence, it appears he has rejected the overtures of Villa and other clubs to stay at Tottenham as well as put up a fight to make his first team bow. Whether he’s good enough for the club to enter the senior group for next season remains to be seen but he could be given his chances in the upcoming season.
