According to a report from CaughtOffside, Chelsea and Arsenal are both interested in the services of Cristhian Mosquera. The Blues are expected to initiate talks to sign the Valencia sensation as they look to beat London rivals to his signature.
Meanwhile, the Gunners have been closely monitoring the 20-year-old as they ponder making a move for him. With Mosquera entering the final year of his contract at Valencia, things will certainly get interesting from here on.
The Spanish youth international has come up the ranks at Valencia. He got promoted to their first team at the start of 2023 and hasn’t looked back since. He has slowly gone on to establish himself as a key figure in the team.
In the ongoing campaign, the young centre-back has featured in 36 out of their 37 league outings. His consistent performances have put him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
With his contract running out in 12 months, he looks set for a move away from Valencia. The Spanish outfit could be willing to sell him for as little as €25 million as they wouldn’t want to risk losing out on him for free next summer.
Since he will be available for a bargain price, there is no shortage of takers. Arsenal and Chelsea are two clubs that could offer him the opportunity to try himself in the English top flight.
The Gunners already have some solid options at the back but they could end up selling Jakub Kiwior this summer. Mosquera could come in to take his place in the team. The North London club have been monitoring him for a while and they feel he could be a great long-term acquisition for them.
While Arsenal are interested in him, Chelsea are looking to beat them to his signature. The Blues are expected to soon initiate talks to sign the Valencia centre-back. He is considered an ideal fit for their project that revolves around signing the best young players.
The 20-year-old could end up being an important part of Enzo Maresca’s plans from the start as he could be considered an upgrade on Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah and the injury-prone Wesley Fofana. With other top clubs also keen, it will be interesting to see if either English club can win the race for his signature.
