Leeds United keen on Callum Wilson

Leeds United are interested in signing Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.

According to a report from Football Insider, Leeds United are considering making a move for Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson, who is set to be available for free. The Yorkshire-based club are gearing up for their return to the top flight and they feel the English striker’s experience could come in handy.

Wilson joined the Magpies back in 2020 from Bournemouth. While he was a key figure in the team in the initial years, the arrival of Alexander Isak in 2022 saw him slowly go down the pecking order.

His best individual season for the Magpies came during the 2022/23 campaign when he scored 18 goals and bagged another five assists in 31 league outings. Of late, things haven’t been that great for the 33-year-old as he has struggled with persistent injuries in the last few seasons.

He has missed a significant number of games this season as well. Wilson has only been involved in 21 games and has just one goal to his name. With his contract running out at the end of the season, the Tyneside club have decided against handing him a new deal.

Leeds considering signing Wilson

The 33-year-old is set to be a free agent and Leeds seem to have their eyes on him. Despite his recent injury struggles, the Yorkshire-based outfit are willing to bet on him. Daniel Farke is keen on adding Premier League experience to his squad and he feels Wilson could come in handy.

He has a total of 88 goals in the English top flight and getting a striker of his quality for free could prove to be a massive bargain. While Joel Piroe has done wonders for Leeds in the Championship, Farke doesn’t want to build his attack around him.

Wilson might not have age on his side but if he manages to stay fully fit, he could certainly have a massive impact on their season. Apart from the 33-year-old, Leeds are expected to make quite a few moves this summer as the owners are looking to back the manager after a stellar campaign in the Championship.
