Darwin Nunez holds talks with Napoli regarding Liverpool exit

Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez has held talks with Italian giants Napoli over a potential summer move.

Darwin Nunez is living his final weeks at Liverpool as he looks set to part ways with the club when the transfer window reopens. He is attracting a lot of interest from across Europe and Napoli seem to be one of the clubs that are keen on signing him.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, the Naples-based club have held talks with the Liverpool forward regarding a potential move. The Reds are ready to part ways with him and have already started looking for a replacement.

Nunez made a name for himself while playing for Benfica. On the back of his sensational rise, the Merseyside club forked out a massive fee to add him to their squad. While he has done a decent job over the years, the Uruguayan international hasn’t reached the expected levels.

While he was more of a regular under Jurgen Klopp, the arrival of Arne Slot has seen him go down the pecking order. He has been involved in a total of 46 matches this season but has been on the pitch for just over 2,000 minutes.

Nunez still has around three years left on his deal but he is unlikely to continue at the club. The 25-year-old is ready to embark on a new challenge and the Reds are also willing to sanction his departure for the right price.

Napoli making moves to sign Nunez

The Reds are already looking for an ideal replacement as Slot wants to build around a new world-class striker. While there is no shortage of interest in the Uruguayan international, Napoli have emerged as a potential destination.

The Naples-based club are on the lookout for a new striker. While they have been strongly linked with LOSC Lille’s Jonathan David, they are equally interested in Nunez. They have the Liverpool forward as a concrete target and have already held talks with his representatives.

While the Italian giants are quite keen on signing him, they have been prioritising a loan deal for now. A temporary switch will help them better manage the finances involved in bringing him to the club. Liverpool would ideally love a permanent departure and they might prefer selling him to a Saudi Pro League club but the final call will be that of the player.
