Stuttgart are closing in on the signing of Lorenz Assignon (24) from Rennes, with the French full-back expected to leave the Ligue 1 side in the coming weeks, according to L’Équipe.
Assignon, who is under contract with Rennes until 2028, is attracting interest from both Stuttgart and Burnley – the latter having taken him on loan for the second half of last season. But it is the Bundesliga outfit who have made the most concrete progress in recent days, and they are now seen as frontrunners. The deal is expected to be a permanent transfer, although financial terms are yet to emerge.
Having joined Rennes’ academy in 2015, Assignon broke into the first team in 2021 and has since made over 70 appearances in all competitions. The Frenchman also spent time on loan at Bastia and Burnley, gaining experience across Ligue 2, the Premier League and the Championship.
