Arsenal weigh up surprise move for Emiliano Martinez, Manchester United well-placed to land him

Arsenal are linked with a surprise move for Emiliano Martinez as he nears an exit from Aston Villa, with Manchester United well-placed for the Argentine.

According to The Sun, Arsenal could be the surprise suitor for Emiliano Martinez in the summer following some reports linking David Raya with an exit. The World Cup-winning star is about to quit Aston Villa, as apart from the Gunners, Manchester United are interested in a big way and seemingly well-placed to sign the keeper.

David Raya won his second Golden Glove in consecutive seasons after keeping 13 clean sheets in the Premier League and shared the award with Nottingham Forest’s Mats Selz. The 29-year-old has been outstanding for the Gunners, and probably in with a shout for one of their best performers in the campaign across all fronts.

A recent link to Real Madrid has been taken into consideration by the report, who claim the Spanish giants could tempt Raya with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu. Arsenal have already been linked with a move for Joan Garcia, who was earlier seen as a backup to Raya, but now he could position himself to be Arsenal’s new No.1

Aston Villa are also in the mix for Garcia, as they are about to lose Emiliano Martinez. Now, as a surprise, Arsenal are linked with a move for the World Cup-winning star, who was on their books for a long time before moving to the Birmingham-based side back in 2020.

Another report on Football Insider claims that Manchester United are well-placed to sign Martinez in the summer if they manage to sell Andre Onana for the right price. The same story also mentions a £35-40 million price point for the World Cup-winning star, who recently changed agents to get a better deal in the summer.

Manchester United to sign Emiliano Martinez?

Manchester United are looking for a new goalkeeper in the summer, and have been linked with Martinez alongside other clubs. The Argentine star could weigh up a move to Old Trafford for the right offer, as he still has plenty to offer at the top level, and could be seen as a viable upgrade over the error-prone Onana.

As for Arsenal, they might have seen links with Martinez, although the chances of his return to the Emirates are remote. Moreover, the Gunners are expected to invest in a new keeper, although the 32-year-old is not the type of keeper they want and could move on from the pursuit, as Raya may continue at the club as their No.1.
