According to a report by Brazilian outlet UOL Esporte, Chelsea and Newcastle United are keen on signing Joao Pedro in the summer transfer window. The two Premier League giants are preparing their bids to sign the Brazilian international from Brighton & Hove Albion, and a summer exit is on the cards.
Joao Pedro has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Premier League since joining Brighton & Hove Albion from Watford in July 2023. The South American attacker has been a dependable contributor in the final third for the Seagulls but has struggled with fitness issues in the last two years.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a solid 2024/25 campaign, contributing to 17 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net ten times while providing seven assists. However, Pedro’s long-term future at the Amex Stadium is uncertain after a bust-up with Jan Paul van Hecke towards the end of the 2024/25 season.
The Brazilian attacker’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A move across the Premier League is on the cards, with Chelsea and Newcastle United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Chelsea’s interest in Joao Pedro is understandable. The Blues are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit in the summer transfer window by signing a versatile attacker. So, the Brighton & Hove Albion forward has emerged as a viable target for Chelsea. The West London giants are now preparing a bid to sign the South American.
As for Newcastle United, the Magpies are keen on filling Miguel Almiron’s void at St. James’ Park after the Paraguayan international rejoined Atlanta United earlier this year. While Pedro is not an out-and-out replacement for Almiron, he is reportedly ready to play out of position to join Newcastle United.
Like Chelsea, the Magpies are preparing a bid to sign the 23-year-old Brazilian international. So, it will be interesting to see how much the two Premier League clubs offer to sign Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer transfer window.
