Manchester United, Tottenham abandon Antoine Semenyo chase

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will not launch the offensive to sign 25-year-old Ghanaian international Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth this summer.

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been keen on signing Antoine Semenyo in the summer transfer window. The two struggling Premier League giants are eager to reinforce their offensive unit, and they set their sights on the 25-year-old Bournemouth winger.

However, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have cooled their interest in the London-born winger due to Bournemouth’s price tag, with the Cherries demanding £70 million to part ways with the sought-after attacker in the summer transfer window.

Antoine Semenyo and his rise at Bournemouth

Antoine Semenyo has established himself as one of the most underrated attackers in the Premier League since joining Bournemouth from Bristol City in January 2023. The 25-year-old winger has come leaps and bounds in the last two and a half years, having been a pivotal figure in the final third for the Cherries.

The Ghanaian international was exceptional in the 2024/25 season, contributing to 20 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 13 times and providing seven assists. Meanwhile, Semenyo’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

What next?

Manchester United’s interest in Antoine Semenyo is understandable. The Red Devils are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a versatile attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the Bournemouth winger was a viable target for Manchester United. However, they have walked away from the chase, which makes sense, as they are closing in on signing Bryan Mbeumo.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, Timo Werner has returned to RB Leipzig after a dreadful loan spell with the North London club. In addition, Richarlison faces an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. So, the Lilywhites set their sights on the London-born winger. However, Bournemouth’s asking price of £70 million has forced his suitors to cool their interest in him.

Manchester United and Tottenham do not want to fork out £70 million to sign the 25-year-old Ghanaian international. So, they will look elsewhere, although Bryan Mbeumo will likely bolster Manchester United’s offensive unit.
