According to a report by TEAMtalk, Martim Fernandes has a growing market in the Premier League. Arsenal and Manchester City are keen on signing the FC Porto wonderkid in the summer transfer window. However, the two English giants will face stiff competition from Bayer Leverkusen for the Portuguese full-back’s signature.
Martim Fernandes has established himself as one of the most promising young prospects in his homeland since breaking into the first-team squad at FC Porto. A native of Valongo, the highly-rated full-back began his youth career at his hometown club, UD Valonguense, before joining FC Porto in 2017.
The 19-year-old made his first-team bow for FC Porto in the early days of the 2023/24 season but enjoyed his breakthrough at the Primeira Liga club this term. Fernandes has turned out nearly 50 times thus far for FC Porto while chipping in with seven assists.
Meanwhile, the teenage prospect’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League may be on the cards, with Arsenal and Manchester City among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Martim Fernandes has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time. The Gunners are scouring the market for a recognised right-back heading into the summer transfer window, with Mikel Arteta exploring his options. While Ben White and Jurrien Timber have been excellent in that position, the FC Porto wonderkid can be a top-notch addition for the long-term future at Arsenal.
As for Manchester City, Kyle Walker will seal a permanent departure from the Etihad in the summer transfer window. In addition, Rico Lewis has yet to be convincing enough to become the undisputed first-choice right-back for Manchester City. So, they must sign a recognised option for that position, with Fernandes an option worth considering.
However, Arsenal and Manchester City face stiff competition from Bayer Leverkusen for the 19-year-old Portuguese defender’s signature. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the FC Porto wonderkid.
