Arsenal are keen on acquiring the services of Benjamin Sesko as they look to reinforce their attack ahead of next season. While the Gunners have him as a priority target for the summer and have been working on a potential transfer for some time, the North London club are yet to make any significant progress.
According to a report from The Sun, Mikel Arteta’s team are growing frustrated by the Slovenian international’s wage demands. While Andrea Berta is busy negotiating a deal for the 22-year-old, things are not going according to plan for them.
The Spanish manager is keen on signing a world-class number nine this summer as he is not satisfied with the output of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus. Sesko is quite high on his wishlist thanks to his consistent performances for Leipzig over the last two seasons.
While he still has four years left on his deal at Leipzig, the German club are ready to sell as long as their demands are met. They are looking for a massive £70 million, and the North London club are ready to fork out that big a fee.
Arteta is ready to make Sesko his marquee signing of the summer. But the deal is far from done as they are yet to agree on terms with the 22-year-old. The Slovenian striker’s camp are looking for a contract much higher than what the Gunners initially had in mind.
There is believed to be a significant difference between the two parties regarding his personal terms, which could force a major change moving forward. While Arsenal also have their eyes on Viktor Gyokeres, who could be an ideal alternative, Sesko remains their preferred target.
However, they might be forced to look at the Swedish international if they fail to convince Sesko in the coming weeks. The Slovenian international is keen on making a switch to the Premier League; as a result, it will be interesting to see if he lowers his demands.
