According to Give Me Sport, Marc Guehi’s time at Selhurst Park could be numbered as the star defender could be sold this summer. Crystal Palace could reluctantly part ways with the FA Cup-winning skipper with Liverpool in the hunt while Ousmane Diomande is being lined up as a replacement.
There’s plenty of activity in the background at Crystal Palace, as the club have a few key decisions to make with regards to player transfers. The main topic of discussion is the sale of skipper Marc Guehi. as the Eagles could reluctantly accept their fate with their FA Cup-winning star amid fears of losing him on a free transfer next summer.
Guehi is not expected to sign a new deal and may have signalled his intention to make the move to a big club in the Premier League this summer. Arsenal were interested of late, while Palace rejected a reported £70 million offer from Tottenham in January.
Palace will not sell him for a cut-price fee, as they are demanding at least £50 million or more for their star defender. Liverpool are considered the strongest contender as of now, with Guehi reportedly close to agreeing on personal terms with the club, as Palace’s decision will come as a boost for the Reds.
For Liverpool, signing the £50 million-rated FA Cup winner will be a strong statement of intent as they could view him as a long-term heir to the experienced Virgil van Dijk. The player also feels a move to Merseyside could be the best choice despite interest from London clubs Arsenal and Spurs, while Chelsea and Newcastle United were also linked at different stages over the last 12 months.
Crystal Palace have earmarked Ousmane Diomande as Guehi’s long-term replacement, with the club already formulating an offer for the Ivorian centre-back. Sporting CP are reluctant to let him leave and will demand a price that could see Palace shatter their club record when it comes to player purchases.
Palace might need to fork out €50-60 million to land Diomande, while they will face intense competition for the defender. As things stand, it appears the Eagles are in advanced talks for the Sporting CP star, which does place them as a front-runner in the chase, with the defender now widely expected to come in and replace their FA Cup-winning skipper.
