According to TBR, Thomas Frank is expected to keep hold of exciting young talent Jamie Donley after a successful loan in League One. The 20-year-old whizkid will be given his chance to shine with the main group in the upcoming season, with the new manager tasked with developing a young project.
Thomas Frank is being tasked with a young project at Tottenham as he looks to kick-start his reign in style. The Danish boss replaced Ange Postecoglou despite the latter winning the Europa League and ending Spurs’ high-profile trophy drought that lasted 17 years.
Over the last two years, Spurs have managed to bring in some top-notch young talents using the market as well as through their academy. The likes of Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear have come through internally, whereas players such as Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have cost the club hefty fees.
The idea is to keep adding solid young talents to their exciting-looking project, as well as find internal solutions. As for the latter, Tottenham have a talent in the form of Jamie Donley, who spent the previous campaign on loan at League One side Leyton Orient.
He scored 8 goals and provided 10 assists in 39 league games, although could not help the team beat Charlton in the League One playoff Final. As he returns to Spurs, the original thought was to sell him or loan the forward, but it appears Spurs are keeping hold of the 20-year-old whizkid.
Given the kind of season Donley has had, it’s only rewarding to hand him a chance in the first team. The 20-year-old whizkid can operate as a second striker as his primary role, but also slots in as an attacking midfielder or a centre-forward. The likes of Richarlison have failed to deliver, as Donley could potentially gather game time during the cup competitions for Spurs in the upcoming season.
Tottenham are angling a move for Antoine Semenyo, and remain linked with several other attacking targets. However, they are keen to explore the potential of Donley, who will be expected to be in and around the first team this season, but not start the campaign as part of the main matchday group in the Premier League or Champions League, meaning some minutes in the EFL Cup could be on the cards on priority for the young attacker.
