According to Fichajes, Newcastle United have set their sights on the potential signing of Xavi Simons. The Magpies are reportedly prepared to offer RB Leipzig €70 million for the Dutch star, as Eddie Howe seeks reinforcements that change the dynamics of his final third preparation.
Xavi Simons made his move to RB Leipzig permanent in January, although he only signed a short-term contract until 2027. That itself is a big enough indication that he’s already thinking about a change this summer, as the German side’s inability to qualify for any of the European competition will likely see them sell.
There are already talk of a move for Benjamin Sesko to Arsenal, and now Simons could be the next in line to depart. Newcastle United are among the many Premier League sides interested in signing the Dutchman, who had 19 goals and assists for the team last season, which marked a good enough individual display despite the team’s struggles.
The Magpies are not alone, as Tottenham are among his suitors, while Chelsea have also considered exploring a move for the 19 G/A playmaker. Eddie Howe wants to bring about a change in his attacking third preparations and views Simons as someone who brings fresh dynamism to the side.
Newcastle United have stayed silent up until now in the window, however, following the unofficial PSR deadline of June 30, they are expected to spring to life in the market. Howe wants to find solutions to his front line, as Simons can play on the wings as well as double up as an attacking midfielder which does give the manager ideas to change shape in games.
Newcastle United are keen on Simons as well as Antonio Nusa from RB Leipzig, although it’s the Dutch star who seems like a priority. The Magpies are preparing for a €70 million offer to test the German side on their resolve to keep hold of Simons.
Whether that will prove enough to convince Leipzig remains to be seen, while Simons’ decision will also prove crucial. The playmaker could have plenty of other Premier League sides vying for his signature, although there’s the likely guarantee of a place in the Newcastle United first team and an important role in the side that could swing the decision in their favour.
