According to Fabrizio Romano on Give Me Sport, Rodrygo Goes appears to be Arsenal’s ‘dream target’ to play on the wings this summer. The Gunners have been linked with the 24-year-old Real Madrid star for some time now, but they must pay top-of-the-line wages to secure the Brazilian’s signing.
Rodrygo Goes’s future at Real Madrid has become a big talking point ever since Xabi Alonso took over at the club and their Club World Cup campaign. Despite starting their campaign against Al-Hilal, the Brazilian attacker has not made the main lineup in the next two games, and he’s expected to stay on the bench for their round-of-16 clash against Juventus.
There are plenty of rumblings surrounding the 24-year-old Real Madrid star’s future, especially as there are different opinions on where he wants to play. Rodrygo would prefer to operate on the left side of the front three, a role neither Real Madrid nor Alonso may offer given they already have Vinicius Junior there while Kylian Mbappe could be preferred ahead of Rodrygo in that specific role.
While Rodrygo has been predominantly operating on the right-hand side, the arrival of Franco Mastantuono threatens his prospects there. Rodrygo is still undecided on his future amid links to Arsenal, as the winger could potentially take a call once the CWC campaign ends.
Alonso has been keen to keep the winger, although his preference for other players ahead of Rodrygo may give out a different signal. As per Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal does view him as a ‘dream target’ with the north Londoners keen to land a top-draw left winger in this window.
Romano said, “Rodrygo is kind of a dream target for Arsenal. I would say that at the beginning, it was also Nico Williams. Nico Williams and Rodrygo are considered the perfect winger for Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal project.”
Arsenal were ready to offer a bumper contract to prise Rodrygo to the Emirates, and that will be needed to have any chance of signing the Brazilian. The 24-year-old Real Madrid star had reportedly demanded wages of £250,000 a week or more, which would take him near the highest earners with the Premier League giants.
Arsenal will hope to get an answer from Rodrygo before deciding on their opening offer to Real Madrid. As things stand, the 24-year-old Real Madrid star’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu has come under significant doubt, as the Gunners might accelerate their pursuit of the Brazilian to bring him on board.
