LAFC in talks to sign Son Heung-min, Saudi Pro League interest also remains

MLS side LAFC are in talks to sign Son Heung-min as their third designated player, with the Tottenham icon also attracting Saudi Arabian interest.

According to TBR, Son Heung-min’s future could be away from Tottenham this summer, as MLS side LAFC are in talks with the South Korean over a move. The Americans are not alone as Saudi Arabian sides are also looking at the potential of signing the Tottenham icon, as he nears an exit from the North London side.

Son Heung-min is now seen as a Tottenham icon following their victory in the Europa League final. The South Korean became the next captain after Ledley King to steer the club towards a trophy, thus ending a high-profile well-publicised trophy drought that has lasted 17 years.

There’s a difference between Spurs winning the trophy and Son’s faltering form, something the club were worried about since mid-season. Hence, there’s a huge chance for the South Korean to depart with his status as a club legend and hero intact.

Reports recently linked him with a move to Fenerbahce, stating that Jose Mourinho was pushing to sign his former Spurs player. There’s big interest from Saudi Arabian sides, who could potentially offer lucrative terms for the 32-year-old Tottenham icon and help him ease through the latter part of his career.

Tottenham were expected to decide on the skipper’s future, something that could become clearer in the coming days as players return to training. There’s also the possibility of Son thinking about seeing out his contract at Spurs as the upcoming season does allow him to play under a new manager and feature in the Champions League.

LAFC are interested in Son Heung-min

LAFC are in the market for a designated player in their squad following the exit of Olivier Giroud, who joined LOSC Lille on a free transfer. His departure frees up a spot in their squad to add a player, who is not bound by the league’s salary cap, as the MLS side could offer him favourable terms when it comes to wages.

LAFC are already in talks to sign Son, although a decision is not yet made. The contacts might have been on the player’s side, as Tottenham will certainly demand a fee to let their star man leave. It remains to be seen what Son thinks about his future, as there’s every chance for him to leave, while there will be some part of him that will think about staying for one last season in north London.
