Tottenham are prepared to make Eberechi Eze their record signing having relayed their willingness to trigger his £68 million Crystal Palace release clause.

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham are set to intensify their efforts to land Eberechi Eze this summer. The North Londoners are prepared to trigger the attacker’s £68 million release clause written in his Crystal Palace contract and are willing to accept the payment terms.

Tottenham fans are hoping that Thomas Frank’s arrival will change the club’s fortunes, but the early signs have shown the new manager is ready to make his mark. The former Brentford boss has already relayed his targets to the club’s board.

One of them is Eberechi Eze, the England international and Crystal Palace star man who helped the London side their first major honours ever by winning the FA Cup last season. Eze has been in a tremendous vein of form during the final phase of last season, as he is seen one of the big market opportunities in the window.

Ironically, not many of the top teams have considered signing him, but Spurs have been on his case since last summer. Eberechi Eze is ready to leave Crystal Palace despite their FA Cup win and the subsequent qualification to the Europa League. That is not to say he does not have any suitors, but most of them are unlikely to pay his £68 million release clause.

Crystal Palace are ready to accept the release clause in installments, although the report states they would seek at least £45 million or closer as the first payment. Spurs are reportedly willing to accept those terms with the club now eager to act swiftly in pursuit of the £68 million-rated FA Cup winner.

Frank is really keen to bring Eze as a potential upgrade on James Maddison, who has had a mixed season with plenty of inconsistencies. Signing the £68 million-rated FA Cup winner will be a big statement of intent ahead of the new season, with the player himself reportedly open to the idea.

Should Spurs conclude this deal, Eberechi Eze will become their record signing as the club have never paid £68 million for a single player before. Whether they can get it done remains the question, particularly after Thursday’s update that Arsenal are firmly in the race.
