According to TBR, Viktor Gyokeres could be an Arsenal player in the next 48 hours as the club aims to wrap up the deal in that time frame. The Gunners have advanced in their pursuit of the Swedish striker after a breakthrough in talks, as discussions are at the final stage.
The Arsenal striker saga has proved to be stressful for a section of the fanbase. The Gunners have been chasing Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko since the start of the window, and it appears they might have narrowed down on one of the targets.
The Sesko pursuit has fallen off in the last few days, while the Gyokeres chase has taken precedence for Arsenal. Andrea Berta was always interested in the Swede, owing to his phenomenal goalscoring record for Sporting CP over the last two seasons.
On Sunday, Arsenal moved to an advanced stage in the chase and even agreed on personal terms with the Swede. The report stated Gyokeres will earn £200,000 a week over the next five years, which does put him below the mark of some of the high earners at the club.
The Striker has been personally pushing to get a deal done, with Fabrizio Romano stating he even compromised a chunk of his salary at Sporting CP, which he was due to receive, to get a deal done with Arsenal.
Arteta had wanted the new striker for the pre-season tour of Asia, and it appears the Gunners are pushing hard to get a deal done quickly. The Gunners are determined to close the transaction in the next 48 hours, as all that remains is the final fee.
Sporting CP reportedly wants a fee closer to the €80 million mark, and while the Gunners had earlier indicated they were only prepared to pay up to a certain point, they may have to compromise. Either way, the 27-year-old target will be an Arsenal player as things stand, with the striker very much thought to be ready to make the move to England and lead Arteta’s line ahead of the new season.
