Anthony Elanga set to join Newcastle United in £55 million deal

Nottingham Forest winger is reportedly on the cusp of joining fellow Premier League club Newcastle United in a deal worth £55 million.

According to a report by the BBC, Anthony Elanga is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies have been keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 23-year-old Nottingham Forest winger has been the top target for the Tyneside outfit.

The Magpies have finally struck an agreement with Nottingham Forest, with the two Premier League clubs finalising a transfer fee worth £55 million for the Swede’s services. Meanwhile, reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Elanga will soon undergo his medical checks to complete the summer move to Newcastle United.

Anthony Elanga and his rise at Nottingham Forest

Anthony Elanga has established himself as one of the most underrated wingers in the Premier League since joining Nottingham Forest from Manchester United in July 2023. The 23-year-old winger has come leaps and bounds in the last two years, and he has been instrumental in the Tricky Trees’ ascent in the Premier League standings.

The Swedish international enjoyed an excellent 2024/25 campaign, contributing to 18 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net six times and providing 12 assists. Meanwhile, Elanga’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Newcastle United.

Premier League move on the horizon

Newcastle United’s interest in Anthony Elanga makes sense. The Magpies have been scouring the market for a wide attacker this summer after choosing not to replace Miguel Almiron when the Paraguayan international rejoined Atlanta United earlier this year. So, Elanga emerged as Newcastle United’s top target, with the Tyneside outfit also failing to sign him last summer.

While Newcastle United failed with the opening bid to sign the 23-year-old Swede, they never threw in the towel, even though they had other options on their wishlist. The Magpies have finally struck an agreement with Nottingham Forest for Elanga’s signature, and they will fork out £55 million to secure his services.

The rising Premier League giants have been confident of sealing a deal worth £55 million for Elanga’s signature, and a move will see the light of day soon. With Newcastle United scheduling his medical checks, the official announcement should arrive in the coming days.
