Newcastle United preparing improved bid to sign Anthony Elanga

Newcastle United will reportedly aim to sign 23-year-old Swedish international Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Football Insider, Anthony Elanga is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 23-year-old Nottingham Forest winger has emerged as a target for the Tyneside outfit.

The Magpies have already failed with their opening bid worth £50 million to sign the Swede from their fellow Premier League club in the summer transfer window. However, Newcastle United will return with an improved offer to secure Elanga’s services.

Anthony Elanga and a game-changing move

Anthony Elanga has made considerable progress since joining Nottingham Forest from Manchester United in July 2023. The 23-year-old winger has been a mainstay in the final third for the Tricky Trees, establishing himself as a pivotal figure, having been instrumental in their ascent in the Premier League standings in the last two years.

The Swedish international enjoyed a solid 2024/25 campaign, contributing to 18 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net six times and providing 12 assists. Meanwhile, Elanga’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Newcastle United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Will Elanga join Newcastle United?

Newcastle United’s interest in Anthony Elanga makes sense. The Magpies are combing the market for a wide attacker this summer after choosing not to replace Miguel Almiron when the Paraguayan international rejoined Atlanta United earlier this year. So, the Nottingham Forest winger has emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United.

However, the Magpies have already failed with a bid to sign the Swede from their fellow Premier League club. Newcastle United offered £50 million to secure Elanga’s services, but Nottingham Forest will demand a higher fee to part ways with him. They have now prepared an improved proposal to land him.

Newcastle United considered several other wingers, including Malick Fofana, as alternatives to Elanga. Interestingly, the Belgian winger is closing in on joining Nottingham Forest from Lyon. Newcastle United will hope Fofana’s impending arrival helps them land the 23-year-old Swedish international.
