According to a report by TEAMtalk, Anthony Elanga is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the Nottingham Forest winger has emerged as a target for the Tyneside outfit.
The Premier League high-flyers are demanding around £50 million to part ways with the Swede in the summer transfer window. However, Newcastle United may use Harry Barnes as a sweetener to secure Elanga’s signature at a reduced price, with Aston Villa also keen on signing the English winger.
Anthony Elanga has come leaps and bounds since joining Nottingham Forest from Manchester United in July 2023. The 23-year-old was not going anywhere at Old Trafford, even though Erik ten Hag handed him a few opportunities. However, he has become a mainstay in the final third for Nottingham Forest.
The Swedish international enjoyed a solid 2024/25 campaign, amassing six goals and 12 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Elanga’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Newcastle United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Newcastle United’s interest in Anthony Elanga is understandable. The Tyneside outfit also wanted to sign the Nottingham Forest winger last summer before the deal failed to see the light of day. However, the former Manchester United prospect remains a viable target after Newcastle United chose not to replace Miguel Almiron after the Paraguayan international rejoined Atlanta United earlier this year.
So, Elanga has emerged as a target for Newcastle United, with the Tyneside club optimistic about securing his services. The Magpies may have an ace up their sleeve, as they are mulling over offering Harvey Barnes in the deal to land the 23-year-old Swede, who will cost around £50 million. Interestingly, the 27-year-old English winger is on Aston Villa’s radar.
However, with Aston Villa yet to launch the offensive to sign Barnes, Newcastle United may succeed in using him as a makeweight to land Elanga. That will also bring Nottingham Forest’s price down from £50 million. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Swedish international.
