According to a report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham are keen on bringing Kyle Walker-Peters back to the club this summer. Thomas Frank is believed to be a big admirer of the versatile defender, and Spurs are looking to beat Chelsea to his signature.
Walker-Peters was a part of the Tottenham setup back in the day. He went up the ranks and even got promoted to their first team, but things didn’t work out for him at the North London club. He eventually ended up joining Southampton at the start of 2020.
While it was an initial loan deal, the Saints made it permanent the following summer. The 28-year-old has only gone from strength to strength since joining them and has been one of their mainstays over the years.
Southampton didn’t have the best of seasons last time out, as they finished bottom of the points table and got relegated to the Championship. While it wasn’t an ideal season for them as a team, Walker-Peters still stood out with his performances.
While the Saints would love to have him in their squad going forward, he is set to leave the club with his contract running out at the end of the month. The Championship outfit tried their best to extend his stay, but they have failed to convince him.
With him set to be available for free, multiple English clubs are keen on signing the versatile defender. However, Spurs are reportedly prepared to make the most determined push to re-sign their academy graduate. The North London club seek more depth at the back, and Walker-Peters could prove to be a valuable addition to their squad.
His ability to feature as a right-back, a wing-back as well as on the opposite flank could come in handy for Thomas Frank’s team. The newly appointed Tottenham boss is open to the idea of having him in their squad. He could compete with Pedro Porro for a place in the starting XI and could also cover on the opposite flank.
His arrival would also boost their homegrown quota, and with a player of his quality available for free, Spurs certainly won’t want to miss out on him. But they could face serious competition from Chelsea, who are also interested in his signature.
While the Blues tend to target young stars with massive potential, they see this as a great opportunity to sign a top-quality player. His experience could come in handy, and he could provide much-needed depth to Enzo Maresca’s squad.
