According to a report by Football Transfers, Viktor Gyokeres is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Sporting CP centre-forward has been a target for the North London club in the last few months.
Andrea Berta has recently held discussions with Sporting CP, and he “flew back from Portugal on Tuesday night after positive talks”. Arsenal will aim to seal the deal for the Swede within the next two weeks before they embark on the pre-season tour to Hong Kong and Singapore.
Viktor Gyokeres has transformed into a goal machine since joining Sporting CP from Coventry City in July 2023. The 27-year-old was already a prolific striker but has scored for fun during his spell with the Portuguese giants. He has amassed 97 goals and 28 assists in 102 appearances across all competitions thus far for the Portuguese giants.
So, it is hardly surprising that the Swedish international has become a hot property in the market, with several high-profile clubs across Europe setting their sights on him. A return to England may be on the cards, with Arsenal among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal’s interest in Viktor Gyokeres makes sense. The Gunners have been combing the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window after Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz failed to make their mark in front of the goal in the 2024/25 season. So, several candidates, including Benjamin Sesko, have emerged on Arsenal’s radar.
However, the Gunners view Gyokeres as their top target, with talks to sign him progressing in the last few weeks. Andrea Berta recently returned to London after some “positive” discussions with Sporting CP. Arsenal will now aim to strike an agreement in the next two weeks. Meanwhile, personal terms are not an issue, and the 27-year-old Swede will sign a big-money contract at the Emirates.
However, with Arsenal and Sporting CP yet to finalise the agreement over a transfer fee, the next two weeks will be crucial. The Gunners want to take the Swedish international on their pre-season tour of Hong Kong and Singapore. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the former Coventry City striker.
