Manchester City have less than one week to trigger Denzel Dumfries clause

Manchester City will reportedly look to sign 29-year-old Dutch full-back Denzel Dumfries from Serie A club Inter Milan in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Football Insider, Denzel Dumfries is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Citizens are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a right-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 29-year-old Inter Milan wing-back has emerged as a target for the Premier League outfit.

The Dutchman has a release clause worth £21.5 million in his contract with the Nerazzurri. However, it will expire on July 15, meaning his prospective suitors are running out of time to trigger it. It is unclear if Manchester City will fork out £21.5 million to sign Dumfries in the coming days.

Denzel Dumfries and a fruitful Inter Milan spell

Denzel Dumfries has come leaps and bounds since joining Inter Milan from PSV Eindhoven in August 2021. While the 29-year-old has been in and out of the starting lineup in the last four years, having shared game time with Matteo Darmian, he played his part in taking the Nerazzurri back to the summit of Serie A in the 2023/24 season.

The Dutch wing-back has turned out over 150 times thus far for Inter Milan while chipping in with 22 goals and 26 assists. However, Dumfries faces an uncertain future at San Siro, as he has a release clause worth £21.5 million in his contract with the Serie A giants. The situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several European bigwigs, including Manchester City.

Premier League adventure beckons?

Manchester City’s interest in Denzel Dumfries is understandable. The Citizens have allowed Kyle Walker to join Burnley in a cut-price move in the summer transfer window. In addition, Rico Lewis has yet to make his mark on the right flank, even though he is in talks with Manchester City over a new contract.

With Pep Guardiola utilising Matheus Nunes as a right-back in the 2024/25 season, Manchester City must sign a top-notch right-back in the summer transfer window. However, the Premier League giants are running out of time to trigger the 29-year-old Dutchman’s release clause.

Dumfries has a release clause worth £21.5 million in his contract with Inter Milan, but it will run out on July 15. So, it will be interesting to see if Manchester City will fork out £21.5 million to land the Dutch wing-back in the coming days.
