Premier League giants Arsenal have initiated tentative contacts with their counterparts at La Liga outfit Espanyol, over a potential summer transfer.
That’s according to transfer insider Matteo Moretto, who points towards Joan García as the subject of the Gunners’ interest.
For those not familiar with his name, García is a 23-year-old goalkeeper, who is currently plying his trade with the aforementioned Espanyol.
García is fresh off a stellar close to the 2023/24 season, which saw him rack up ten clean sheets across 18 appearances, en route to the Periquitos booking their spot back in the top-flight of Spanish football.
And such exploits, evidently, did not go at all unnoticed at the aforementioned Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta and co. are understood to be on the lookout for a new option between the posts, to challenge David Raya for starting duties.
This comes ahead of the predicted sale of Aaron Ramsdale.
And García has been earmarked as one such option, held in high regard by fellow countryman Arteta.
In turn, as per the aforementioned Matteo Moretto, speaking as part of Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, Arsenal have touched base with the brass at Stage Front Stadium:
“What I know on his future is that Arsenal have enquired about the 23-year-old. Currently, it’s not moved much from there.”
Moretto continued:
“That said, García wants to play next season – unless a big opportunity comes in for him, then he would consider staying at Espanyol in order to continue his development.”
