According to Record via Sport Witness, many of the top clubs are vying to sign Vangelis Pavlidis in the summer. Chelsea, Barcelona and Newcastle United are among those interested in the Greek international, with Benfica insistent on his €100 million release clause.
Benfica have another top talent on their hands in striker Vangelis Pavlidis, who could be sold for a big fee ahead of the summer. The Portuguese club could particularly benefit from the huge demand for centre-forwards in the upcoming transfer window, which could see the Greek star leave for a bigger challenge.
Pavlidis moved to Benfica from AZ Alkmaar last summer for a fee reported to be in the region of €20 million as per multiple sources. The Portuguese side have a €100 million release clause inserted in his deal and insisted that interested parties may have to trigger that to sign the Greek striker.
The 26-year-old has had a fabulous season with 34 goals and assists for Benfica this season, with the Portuguese club eager to make the best out of his sale. There’s sufficient interest as per the report with the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea and Newcastle United showing an interest.
The Catalans are in the market to improve their attacking setup, although they may not be in the financial state to pay as much as €100 million or even close to that figure. In any case, teams like Barcelona, Chelsea or Newcastle United are not expected to pay as much, as the eventual fee might be significantly lower.
The Greek striker could be a target for Chelsea, who are looking into the market for a new striker who could challenge Nicolas Jackson in the team. The Blues are keen on Liam Delap, who could cost as much as £30 million next summer if Ipswich Town are relegated, while they also have Viktor Gyokeres in their sights. Pavlidis might not be their priority target in that case, although he could be someone seen as an alternative.
Newcastle United could be forced into the market for a new striker if they end up losing Alexander Isak amid interest from Arsenal and Liverpool. Moise Kean is a target, while there are links to Dominic Calvert-Lewin among others. Much like Chelsea, the Magpies may not necessarily consider Pavlidis as their priority target, as they could still keep him on the list as an additional option if they fail to land top targets.
