Eddie Howe driving Newcastle United move for Marc Guehi

Eddie Howe is reportedly pushing Newcastle United to reignite their pursuit of Marc Guehi, as they will face stiff competition for the defender.

According to Give Me Sport, Eddie Howe is keen for Newcastle United to seal the signing of Marc Guehi. Newcastle United are expected to reignite their interest in the Crystal Palace defender although they will face stiff competition from Chelsea and Liverpool ahead of the summer.

Marc Guehi is set to be a big topic in the transfer market, as the defender is likely to leave Crystal Palace. The 24-year-old will enter the final year of his deal at Selhurst Park, which could force the South London outfit to consider offers for their main man at the back.

Crystal Palace are expected to sell him for less than the price they were demanding last summer and in January, as there are quite a few top-tier sides eager to sign the defender. Guehi earns around £50,000 per week on his Palace deal and could be set for a major upgrade on his salary irrespective of where he joins.

Liverpool are linked with a move for Guehi, as Arne Slot is looking to shore up his backline with a top-draw defender. Chelsea are one of the big suitors for the 24-year-old, with the Blues holding the advantage of luring him considering the Palace man was an academy graduate at the club. Chelsea are eager to sign him as well as Dean Huijsen, as they plan on a major defensive revamp ahead of the new season.

Chelsea could potentially enhance their chance of landing Guehi should they finish in the top five this term. Newcastle United are the biggest threat to the Blues in pursuit of the £50,000-a-week defender, as the Magpies are set to reignite their interest following their failure to land the centre-back after Crystal Palace rejected at least four bids last summer for a fee of £65 million.

Eddie Howe pushing for Marc Guehi

Newcastle United are expected to extend Jamaal Lacelles’s deal by another year, and Eddie Howe wants to bring another starting-quality centre-back to provide competition for existing options. The Magpies are also in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League, which does give them a good enough chance to land the English international.

Howe is reportedly pushing the Tyneside club to seal the transfer of the 24-year-old England international, as he views Guehi as a key cog in their efforts to succeed next season. There will be question marks about whether the Magpies are the favourites in this chase, but they are expected to put up a good fight with the other Premier League suitors in pursuit of the Palace star.
