Pep Guardiola prioritising Manchester City move for Dani Olmo

Pep Guardiola reportedly wants Manchester City to prioritise a summer move for 27-year-old Barcelona playmaker Dani Olmo.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Dani Olmo is the subject of interest from Manchester City. Pep Guardiola is the driving force behind the Premier League club’s move for the Barcelona playmaker. The Manchester City manager wants the Citizens to prioritise a move for the Spanish international.

Dani Olmo and his second coming at Barcelona

Dani Olmo has endured a topsy-turvy ride since rejoining Barcelona from RB Leipzig last summer. The Blaugrana broke the bank to re-sign the Spaniard, and he has justified the outlay, even though he has spent spells on the sidelines with fitness issues this season.

While the 27-year-old has not even managed 2,000 minutes of game time across 36 appearances across all competitions thus far in the 2024/25 season, he has contributed to 17 goals, finding the back of the net 11 times and providing six assists. However, he has been a regular in the final third for Barcelona whenever he has been fit and available.

Meanwhile, the Spanish international remains highly sought-after in the market despite his sketchy fitness record. A move to the Premier League may be on the cards in the summer transfer window, with Manchester City among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Premier League adventure on the horizon?

Manchester City’s interest in Dani Olmo is understandable. The Citizens are scouring the market for a creative attacker heading into the summer transfer window as they prepare for life after Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian international will leave Manchester City as a free agent after the 2024/25 season ends, and he will leave a gaping hole at the Etihad.

So, several midfielders, including Tijjani Reijnders, have emerged on Manchester City’s radar, with Olmo also a viable target. Pep Guardiola is an admirer of the Spaniard’s talent, and the former Barcelona manager wants Manchester City to prioritise a summer move for the former RB Leipzig playmaker.

It is unclear how much Barcelona will demand to part ways with Olmo in the summer transfer window. However, Manchester City should ideally have no qualms about coughing up a sizeable fee to sign the 27-year-old Spanish international, considering Guardiola’s eagerness to land him.
