Arsenal in pole position to sign Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal are best placed to sign Viktor Gyokeres in the summer amid interest from Manchester United in the Sporting CP striker.

According to Fichajes, Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres is likely to join Arsenal with the north Londoners best placed to sign him in the summer. The Swedish striker is expected to make a big career move once the Portuguese season ends, with Manchester United also in the mix for the prolific goalscorer.

Viktor Gyokeres is expected to make his big career move in the summer, following yet another top-quality season with Sporting CP. The striker has 66 goals and assists across all competitions for the Portuguese champions, as a decision on his future could be made soon after the Cup Final with Benfica.

Manchester United are interested in signing him and are part of the race for the striker. Ruben Amorim is the big reason for this interest, as the Portuguese manager was directly responsible for the Swede’s exponential rise in the game since his move to Sporting CP from Coventry City.

The Red Devils are in the race, but realistically, they will have a chance if they win the Europa League Final and make it to next season’s Champions League. However, they are seemingly training Arsenal in the chase, with the north Londoners seen as the best-placed team to sign the 26-year-old attacker.

Sporting CP have reportedly given their green light for Gyokeres to make the move to Arsenal. Sporting director Andrea Berta has been leading this chase for the Gunners, and now there are chances they will make a bid that appeals to the Portuguese champions for them to agree on a deal.

Sporting CP hopes for a bidding war.

As per the report, it might take around €80 million to convince Sporting CP to sell Gyokeres in the summer, despite the striker having a €100 million release clause. Fabrizio Romano has stated a fee of around €65 million could convince the Portuguese side into a sale, which seems even less than what the report states.

Sporting CP are hoping for a bidding war, meaning Manchester United might have to enter the race to get the Portuguese side a price closer to the €80 million mark. However, should Arsenal convince the player beforehand, they might get their way in securing Gyokeres for around €65 million.
