Aston Villa interested in Caoimhin Kelleher

Aston Villa are reportedly in the running for Caoimhim Kelleher as a replacement for Emiliano Martinez, with Chelsea also part of the race.

According to Fichajes, Aston Villa are angling a move for Caoimhim Kelleher in the summer as a potential replacement for Eimilano Martinez. The 26-year-old Liverpool player is expected to leave the club in the summer with a few clubs keen including Chelsea.

Aston Villa are expected to look for a new goalkeeper in the summer after the latest developments with Emiliano Martinez. The Argentine World Cup winner has been the No.1 between the sticks since his move from Arsenal in 2020, and even recently signed a new deal with the club.

However, his demeanor following the final game of the season at Villa Park on Friday night indicated that it might have been his final game at the venue. Reports have stated Aston Villa are ready to sell Martinez, with a replacement likely on the cards in the summer.

They have set sights on Espanyol’s Joan Garcia, although face plenty of competition for the Spaniard’s signature. While they view him as a top target, Aston Villa might be looking at other options to replace Martinez, for whom they reportedly have a few offers on the table.

The latest player on their list is 26-year-old Liverpool player Caoimhim Kelleher, with the Irish international set to leave Anfield in the summer. Giorgi Mamardashvili has already completed his move to Liverpool last summer and is set to arrive in the close season, while Alisson Becker is widely expected to stay put. Hence, Kelleher will have no place in the team, with a host of clubs already showing an interest.

Aston Villa face Chelsea in competition for Caomihim Kelleher

Aston Villa are not alone in the race for Kelleher, with the 26-year-old Liverpool player attracting big interest from many clubs, Brighton are one of those keen and could pose a big threat to the chances of Unai Emery’s side.

Chelsea are also keen and ready to invest in a new stopper as they do not have much faith in their current No.1 choice Robert Sanchez. Hence, the Blues might be the biggest threat to Aston Villa in this race, although any move will entirely depend on Liverpool’s asking price for the 26-year-old.
