Tottenham, West Ham United set to be beaten to Jonathan David by Napoli

Tottenham and West Ham United could face disappointment in their pursuit of Jonathan David, who seems destined to join Napoli.

According to Football Insider, Napoli are set to hand Tottenham and West Ham United a blow in their efforts to land Jonathan David. The Canadian striker will be free to join a club of his choice in the summer when his contract at LOSC Lille ends, with the Serie A leaders looking to steal the march on the London outfits.

Jonathan David is one of the top players in a small pool of quality free agents available for transfer in the summer. The Canadian international has had another prolific season with LOSC Lille, contributing to 37 goals across all competitions, and he has no interest in continuing with the French side.

With a host of top teams searching for a high-quality striker, most have looked at David as a potential option. Barcelona were keen once, while West Ham United have made their interest known for some time now. David is unlikely to join the Hammers despite reports of a lucrative contract offer from the Londoners.

Tottenham are also working on a deal for Jonathan David alongside Aston Villa, and the North Londoners are in the window for a new marksman. Richarlison’s future is under a cloud of doubt, and Spurs’ dream of landing a top-draw striker will probably hinge on their ability to win the Europa League Final and enter next season’s Champions League through that route.

However, Tottenham and West Ham are expected to lose out to an Italian team in the race for the 37 G/A striker. Napoli are seemingly ahead among all other teams for the Canadian, who also had heavy links to join Inter Milan.

Napoli winning the race for Jonathan David

Napoli are the current front-runners to sign David on a free transfer as the club return to the Champions League. The current Serie A leaders are looking to make some quality signings in the summer to bolster their squad.

As for the Canadian’s chase, they will love the idea of bringing in the prolific striker on a free transfer, and beating some of the Premier League sides will be the cherry on top of the cake. It remains to be seen whether they can offer the striker favourable financial terms compared to other suitors, as the money part might play a big role for the forward in his selection of a new club.
