Chelsea, Liverpool vying for Benjamin Sesko, told to pay €84 million

Chelsea and Liverpool’s paths are set to cross in their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko, with RB Leipzig demanding €84 million for the striker.

According to Fichajes, Chelsea and Liverpool are set to pursue the signing of Benjamin Sesko as their new striker ahead of the new season. RB Leipzig are expecting at least €84 million for the young centre-forward which would be seen as prohibitive by either of those English giants.

Benjamin Sesko is reportedly ready to leave RB Leipzig in the summer as the German side failed to qualify for any of the European competitions next season. The Slovenian was the subject of big interest last summer when Arsenal knocked on the door, but he chose to stay and continue his development with the Bundesliga side.

In the process of staying at the club, Sesko also committed to a new deal that removed a previous release clause from his old contract, with the new one not expected to contain one. Hence, Leipzig have found themselves in a big position to demand a significant fee from suitors, with the report stating they want €84 million to sell the Slovenian who has 27 goals and assists this season for the German side.

Liverpool and Chelsea have made checks on Sesko, as the English duo are collectively linked to many common striker names in the market. For instance, they are both keen on Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, while they are also linked with Brighton’s Joao Pedro.

Liverpool and Chelsea are in the market for a new striker ahead of the new season, with the Reds ready to sell Darwin Nunez, while the Blues are eager to add competition for Nicolas Jackson. Chelsea were keen on Liam Delap earlier, although Manchester United are now closing in on the striker.

Liverpool and Chelsea balk at Benjamin Sesko’s asking price

Liverpool were interested in Alexander Isak, as Newcastle United have priced them out of a deal with an exorbitant asking price. The finances are the main reason for the Merseysiders to pursue other names, including the 27 G/A striker prodigy from RB Leipzig, although his €84 million asking price has not been taken well by the club.

Even Chelsea are not keen on paying such a price for a player still seen as a rough diamond rather than a finished article. Hence, the English duo are wary of paying as much as €84 million for Sesko despite the striker showing plenty of promise of being a top-draw striker in the future.
